About Us

Southampton u3a encourages lifelong learning in an informal way. Members get together to form groups, to study a subject or pursue an interest.  We also have a lively social side.

U3A membership is open to all who are in their ‘third age’ and no longer in full time employment.

For 2025 our basic annual subscription remains at £10. This includes the talks at the monthly general meetings and the bi-monthly newsletter by email.

If you would like further information please contact membership_secretary @ u3asouthampton.org. If you are ready to join click here

Our Groups

We have over 400 members and 60 groups, covering a wide range of interests.

We have learning groups, covering subjects such as History and Languages, and groups dedicated to activities, such as Crafts, Games, Walking etc.

Groups are run by members for members. Learning groups are self-help. We do not run 'courses' or 'classes' and the U3A does not provide tutors or venues (most learning groups meet in members' homes).

Most groups are free but some have to charge for additional costs such as room hire.

If you find the groups you want to join are full or that there isn't a group covering your interest, we encourage you to start a new one!

Social Programme

Our monthly general meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month at St James Methodist Church Hall, Shirley. We have a varied programme, with speakers on a wide range of subjects.

The Social Committee arranges a varied programme of activities throughout the year which offer opportunities to get to know other members.

Social events are generally free but some may have costs such as transport or entrance fees.
