Welcome to Southampton U3A

Now that you are no longer in full-time work, do you have more time for things that you have always been interested in? Subjects like History, Sciences and Languages or Crafts, Games and Activities?

Southampton u3a could have just the group for you! Read on for further details.
We also have interesting talks and a lively social side.
For 2026 our basic annual subscription remains at £10. This includes the talks at the monthly general meetings and the bi-monthly newsletter by email.
If you are ready to join click here: Join Southampton u3a
If you would like further information please contact membership_secretary @ u3asouthampton.org.
We have over 60 groups covering a wide range of interests. Local History, Wine Tasting and Spanish Conversation are just some of them. Browse the full list here: u3a Southampton Groups
If you find that there isn't a group covering your interest or the group that you want to join is full, you can start a new one!
Groups are self-help and run by members for members. Group sizes are often limited, usually because most groups meet in members' homes. We do not run 'courses' or 'classes' and the U3A does not provide tutors or venues.
We have a varied programme of interesting talks. In 2025 subjects included 'The Life of Hares', 'History from a Black Person's Experience' and 'Handbags for All' !
The Social Committee arranges activities such as Sunday Breakfasts and Afternoon Teas throughout the year which offer opportunities to get to know other members.
Additionally, in 2025 there were visits to St Cross, Blenheim Palace and Arundells.
Our monthly general meetings take place on the first Tuesday of each month at St James Methodist Church Hall, Shirley.
